Julius Webb, Sr. Obituary

     Julius O'Neal Webb Sr., known affectionately as 'Webb,' 'Dance Master,' and 'Julio' within his close circle of loved ones, was born on Tuesday, July 4, 1944, in Norfolk, Virginia, to the late Joseph Patrick and Florence Webb. He peacefully departed this life on Friday, February 2, 2024, while in the serenity o his home. His memory is celebrated by those who cherished him, and his impact resonates through the endearing nicknames that adorned his life.  Preceding him in death were his son, Patrick Webb, and siblings, Sonny Webb, Doreen Capers, and Louis Webb. 

     From his early years, Julius embraced his faith, receiving baptism and demonstrating unwavering commitment to the Lord. His active participation in Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church, Woodland, North Carolina, showcased his selfless dedication, contributing time and talents to support the church community.

     Julius completed his education at Washington County Union High School in Roper, North Carolina, and earned his bachelor’s degree from Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) in Elizabeth City, North Carolina. Furthering his academic pursuits, he attained two master’s degrees from Virginia State University (VSU) in Petersburg, Virginia.

     A devoted educator for over three decades, Julius left an indelible mark on the communities he served in North Carolina and Greensville County, Virginia. His roles as teacher, counselor, and principal inspired generations of students to strive for excellence. Beyond the classroom, he volunteered as a wrestling coach, instilling values of perseverance and teamwork, and served as the Director of Upward Bound, tirelessly working to provide educational opportunities to underprivileged students.

     Julius's enduring partnership with Geneva Webb, cultivated during their time at Elizabeth City State University, celebrated 56 years of marital bliss. Together, they were blessed with three children: Shanda, Julius Jr., and Patrick. A passionate advocate for education, Julius found joy in witnessing the personal and professional accomplishments of his children and grandchildren.

     Active in various organizations, Julius contributed to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., and associations such as the NAACP, NEA, NCAE, NCASA, J.T. Doles ECSU Alumni Chapter, North Carolina Retired School Personnel Association, and Roanoke-Chowan Regional Housing Authority.

     Julius is survived by his wife, Geneva Webb; children, Shanda Branch and Julius Webb Jr. (Raquel); grandchildren, De’Quan Tann Sr., Bria Webb, and Patrick Branch; great-grandchildren, Kwashaun Green, De’Quan Tann Jr., and Avant Tann; siblings, Katie McDowell (Chester), Arlita 'Sandy' Brifu, Isabelle Patrick, Betty Sue Spruill, William Webb, James Patrick (Clarice), and John Webb (Patricia); aunts, Christine Jones,  Annie Grant and Harriet Webb; sister-in-law, Cora Bishop; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and a multitude of friends, who hold his memory dear.

     Julius leaves behind a legacy of love, education, and community service, cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
