“That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day. For our present troubles are small and won’t last very long. Yet they produce for us a glory that vastly outweighs them and will last forever!”
~ 2 Corinthians 4:16-17 NLT
Ronnie Ray Ricks was born in Severn, Northampton County, North Carolina, on February 9th, 1957, to the late Armelia Ricks Murrell and Joe Claude Woodley.
Under the loving care of his grandmother, Mary Branch Stephenson, Ronnie attended the public schools of Northampton County. At the tender age of 16, he relocated to Portsmouth, Virginia, with his mother and siblings. Ronnie was the eldest of seven children.
As life progressed, Ronnie found himself drawn back to his roots in Severn, North Carolina. Prior to his declining health, Ronnie pursued a career as a self-employed tradesman. He was a skilled carpenter and automobile mechanic, generously using his talents to bless others. Ronnie was truly one-of-a-kind; he embraced life to the fullest and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
On Friday, March 22, 2024, Ronnie peacefully departed this life while under the care of Northampton Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in Jackson, North Carolina. He is now reunited with his parents, grandparents Mary B. Stephenson and William Ricks, siblings Milton 'Tony' Murrell, Michael Murrell, Malcolm Murrell, Boris Murrell, Lesia Murrell, Stacey Murrell, James Lewis, Shelia Woodley, and Brenda Woodley; as well as his special aunts and uncles, Joe Ricks, Thelma R.
