Valerie Lauren (Purnell) Miller

Valerie Lauren Purnell Miller, born on Friday, February 25, 1949, and a proud graduate of West Side High School in Newark, New Jersey, brought joy and laughter to every corner of her life. She was the daughter of the late Theodore and Lucille Rose Slaughter.   Affectionately known as ‘Val’ by her closest friends, she found delight in the simple pleasures of life. Her passions included traveling, fishing, knitting, organizing get-togethers, arranging bus rides to her favorite destinations along the East Coast and indulging in spirited card games.

Val's professional journey spanned over 30 years, during which she held various positions in State Government for Essex County, New Jersey. Her final role before retirement was as a clerk for a Municipal Judge in Newark.

She is survived by her two sons, Jimmie and Alonzo, and is lovingly remembered for her daughter, Keisha. Val leaves behind six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, along with her siblings Joe, Barry, Billie, Vivian and Jean. Her extended family, which includes numerous cherished relatives, will always hold her love and memory close to their hearts.

Valerie's legacy is one of love, laughter, and a zest for life that will forever be remembered. Whenever friends recall her, a warm smile is sure to follow, a testament to the joy she brought to those fortunate enough to know her.
