Lorennie Benjamin Boone, a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, graced this world on Saturday, February 28, 1948, in Northampton County, NC, born to the late Milon Joseph Benjamin, Sr. and Bella Banks Benjamin.
Lorennie's educational journey unfolded in the Northampton County School System, and she found solace and community as an active member of Boone’s Chapel Baptist Church in Jackson, North Carolina.
Her industrious spirit led her to a career at JP Stevens, where she served as a weaver for over 20 years. Known for her resourcefulness, Lorennie had a talent for repairing her own weaving machines, whenever they encountered challenges. Her remarkable baking skills, especially her renowned sweet potato pies, and her encyclopedic memory of her family's history, endeared her to all who knew her.
On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home in Jackson, North Carolina, Lorennie peacefully entered eternal rest. In addition to her beloved parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Evelyn Watson, and brothers, Milon ‘Ozzie’ Benjamin Jr. and John Underdue.
Left to cherish the treasured memories of Lorennie are her two children – daughter, Margaret M. Ebron (Sheldon) of Cordova, Tennessee and daughter, Tracy B. Jones (Ronald) of Clayton, North Carolina. She is also survived by two sisters, Clester Lockhart of Jackson, North Carolina and Dorothy (Michael) Jordan of Winterville, North Carolina .
Lorennie's legacy lives on through her dearly beloved grandchildren, Marchel and Sheldon Ebron Jr., both of Memphis, Tennessee, and Alexandra Jones of Clayton, North Carolina. They will forever hold her in their hearts.
In addition, her memory is warmly cherished by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. As we honor her life, let us reflect on the love and generosity she shared, and may the warmth of her spirit continue to touch the lives of those fortunate enough to know her.
