“Sad is the parting, no one can tell:
So sudden on earth the sorrow fell,
The blow was hard, the shock severe;
To part with one we love so dear.
Dearer still, as days depart;
Our loved one’s memory will forever live within our hearts!”
Melvin Lashley, son of the late Leathel ‘Lee’ Lashley, began his earthly journey on Wednesday, November 14th, 1970, in Gaston (Northampton County), North Carolina.
Affectionately known as ‘Melbox’ by his family and friends, Melvin was educated in the Northampton County Public School System. In his early adult years, he worked in a local warehouse before passionately pursuing a career in construction. Melvin was a loving and devoted Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, Cousin, and Friend, whose presence will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
On Wednesday, January 28th, 2026, while in the serenity of his home; our beloved ‘Melbox’ peacefully departed this life to be with our gracious Lord at the age of 55.
Melvin leaves to cherish his precious memories his devoted children, Kyvon Harris of Gaston, North Carolina, and Cameron Foster of Richmond, Virginia; and his two beloved grandchildren, Kymier and Kyliee Harris, whom he held close to his heart. He is also survived by four siblings: John Lashley of the home; Rosa Garner (Edward) Tyshawn High; and Sylvia Harvey of Gaston, North Carolina; along with one aunt, Donnie Rae High of Gaston, North Carolina.
He further leaves behind three nephews, JaCori Garner, Lavar Garner, and JaCody Garner, all of Gaston, North Carolina; one niece, Bryanna Williams of Gaston, North Carolina; two great-nephews and two great-nieces, Naz, Lincoln, Olivia, and Kenzi; the father of the home, J.L. Wilkins High; his best friend, Ricky Worrell, whom he could call on for any and everything; and a host of other relatives and friends.
A special message from the heart is extended to his Lashley boys—James, Jerry, Tony, and John—Dallas Cowboys for life!
